Visually Impaired

On this page, we present the orientation systems available to our passengers who are visually impaired or visually impaired.

Touch maps, guided routes, Braille

All stations on the M4 and M5 lines and most of the stations on the other lines have LOGES (Guidance and Safety Orientation Lines) routes, the system of surfaces with reliefs created to be felt under the feet, to allow passengers to orient themselves in the mezzanines, corridors, on the platforms and reach trains and exits.
In the mezzanines, station maps in Braille point to stairs and elevators.
The elevators have Braille and embossed buttons.

Guide dogs

Guide dogs are welcome on our means. They can travel for free and without a muzzle (they must only wear it if requested by our staff or passengers). If declared suitable by bodies recognized by the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, they can stand on escalators or moving walkways and must be insured against third parties. Dogs are allowed on elevators, on a leash.

Beeps to touch in

Entrance and exit reserved for passengers with disabilities can be found in all stations. The reader to touch in your ticket or travel pass is on the right-hand side. It makes this sound when the turnstile is about to open and this sound when the travel document has not been accepted. The validators on surface means are also equipped with an acoustic warning system.

Embossed yellow stripe

The safety boundary not to be crossed is crossed by a relief perceptible with the feet. Sound announcements remind you to move away from the safety lines when the train is approaching.
To date, the reliefs are missing in the M2 stations of Villa Fiorita, Bussero and Villa Pompea and in the stations of the M4 and M5 lines, where the platforms are protected by doors that prevent falling on the platforms.

Sound announcements

In all metro stations, sound messages on the platform announce the arrival of the train, the destination, the name of the station when the doors are opened and information on the status of traffic in case of delays on the lines.
On board trains, messages announce the closing of the doors (in some lines with a prolonged sound, this one), the next station, the destination of the train, the lines of correspondence, the opening side of the doors, the arrival at the terminusWhen the doors are open, an intermittent sound is heard. If necessary, train drivers and passenger information staff broadcast messages on the state of traffic.
On all surface means, the next stop is announced with sound messages.

Display for the visually impaired

The majority of electronic displays at stops have yellow writing on a black background, readable by visually impaired people.
On all the latest means, we have enlarged the font of the displays to ensure better readability.

Difference in height between train and platforms

Our staff can help you get on the train by overcoming the small space between the train and the platforms in some stations of the M1, M2 and M3 lines.
